The Department of English at Elmhurst University, a private four-year university serving 3,300 undergraduate students in Chicago’s western suburbs, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with primary specialization in secondary English education or significant teaching experience at the secondary level. A consistent record of scholarly production and publication is expected at the time of tenure. The teaching load is six courses per year. The position starts August 2024.

Essential Functions
- Teach courses in pedagogy and in their content-area specialization and possibly courses in our general education program
- Supervision of field experiences in local schools
- Advising undergraduate students
- Collaboration with internal and external constituencies
- Performs other teaching-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in English by August 2024 and Teacher Certification in English and/or teaching experience in high school or middle school
- Evidence of the ability to conduct and publish scholarly research in relevant fields
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and to mentoring underserved student populations
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary teaching experience
- Sub-specialization in Latino, and/or Indigenous literatures and cultures, British literature generalist, and/or creative writing.
