The Department of English at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Medical Humanities or Medical Rhetoric to begin Fall 2024. We are open to applicants from a wide array of approaches and backgrounds, including but not limited to health justice; narrative medicine; discourses of public health; rhetoric; disability studies; racial justice; and/or feminist, queer, and trans health.

This position affords researchers a unique opportunity at the intersection of an upcoming institutional merger between ODU and Eastern Virginia Medical School as well as larger regional efforts to focus on health equity for underserved residents of the area. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (3/2 teaching load), partner on interdisciplinary grants, and participate in or launch collaborative, community-based research.

• Demonstrated teaching effectiveness
• Experience in interdisciplinary and/or community-based research
• Knowledge and/or experience related to sponsored research and grant writing.
