The School of Arts and Sciences at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College seeks to hire an Assistant Professor or Lecturer of Communication to be housed at our Bainbridge, GA instructional site with appointment beginning January 1, 2024. Applicants with a Doctorate in Communication, or a closely related field are preferred and would be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, a tenure-track 10-month faculty position. Individuals with a Master's in Communication, or a closely related field will be considered and would be appointed at the rank of Lecturer, a non-tenure-track 10-month faculty appointment. Position is open until filled.
Located in the heart of Southwest Georgia, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Bainbridge instructional site includes 173 acres of oak and pine trees close to the beautiful Flint River. Students who attend classes in Bainbridge are given the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business, Criminal Justice, History and Government, and Nursing without transferring to a different location. Students can also earn the Associate of Science in Core Curriculum (General Studies pathway) and the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN leading to the RN) at this site. Bainbridge students can complete the first two years of the B.S. programs in Biology and Writing and Communication at Bainbridge before transferring to ABAC Tifton for the final two years.
The incumbent's teaching load will consist primarily of courses in Human Communication and Public Speaking in support of the Core Curriculum, but they may also have the opportunity to offer other courses in support of the Writing and Communication B.S. degree. The successful candidate is expected to be adept at the use of various instructional technologies. The courses to be offered may include both traditional in-class/on-ground courses, as well as hybrid or online offerings.
Faculty at ABAC are evaluated on their efforts in teaching, advising, student engagement, scholarship, and service. Applicants must be strongly committed to student engagement, undergraduate education, mentored undergraduate research, and to recruitment and retention of students. While a doctorate degree is preferred, applicants are required to have at least a master's degree with 18 graduate credits in the teaching discipline.
