HudsonWay Immersion School (HWIS) is a progressive pre-K through Grade 8 Mandarin and Spanish Immersion School founded 15 years ago in the NJ/NY area. The HudsonWay Immersion School New Jersey Campus, seeks a full-time certified elementary English teacher to teach English language arts and literacy using an interdisciplinary approach for the academic year. Students range in age from 3 years old to grade 4. This English teacher reports to the Principal.
Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs of students i.e. differentiates instruction for children of different linguistic, cultural and academic backgrounds, as well as for children with different learning needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals. Communicates curriculum goals to students and caregivers.
- Employs a variety of instructional strategies, inclusive of immersion techniques, and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Assesses student progress, including reading/writing benchmarks, on a regular basis and communicates progress as agreed.
- Prepares progress reports and conducts conferences.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the time designated.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, creates shared behavior expectations with students.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action HWIS’ philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Other responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate and correct records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulations.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional development.
- Attends in-house meetings and PD as required. Encourages colleagues to pursue professional growth.

- Degree in elementary education
- NJ certification K-5 or K-8
- 2+ years’ teaching experience minimum required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
