Position Description
Armstrong advisors create and facilitate daily advisory meetings. English classes in Middle School are co-taught by two teachers in groups of approximately 15 students. Candidates possess an interest in teaching students with dyslexia and related learning differences. In the classroom, the teacher works to create an educational setting where students have the opportunity to fulfill their personal and academic potential. The teacher will be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that maximizes student strengths and promotes academic success in accordance with Charles Armstrong methodology and mission.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and facilitate daily morning advisory meetings.
- Co-teach Middle School ELA classes, collaborating with teaching partner to deliver lessons, differentiate instruction based on student needs, and work with individual or small groups of students who need additional support or extension.
- Teach one targeted language class to a small group ~6-8 students.
- Teach elective classes of your choosing to middle school students.
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs.
- Use classroom management systems that are focused on social emotional needs.
- Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Collaborate regularly and effectively with grade level teammates and other English teachers within the middle school.
- Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, parents, peers, and community.
Preferred Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid teaching credential
- Experience with and understanding of adolescent children in grades 6-8
- Experience with and understanding of children with learning differences
- Two or more years of classroom teaching experience
