Located in Wilmington, NC, Cape Fear Academy is southeastern North Carolina’s premier PK3- 12 independent school. A learning community of 700+ students and 100+ faculty and staff members, CFA is guided by the mission of discovering and developing individual potential. Teachers at Cape Fear Academy deliver high quality instruction that emphasizes critical
thinking, written and oral communication, and collaboration in a technology-rich environment.  CFA’s academic curriculum, recorded in an online mapping system, establishes clear, coordinated goals for each course and grade level while still allowing teachers the freedom to be creative and innovative in their instructional choices. Academic departments in grades 6-12 foster collaborative decisions about curriculum, materials, and departmental goals. This high  level of collegiality as well as support for continuous professional development make CFA an ideal place to grow professionally.

Upper School English Teacher

Major Responsibilities:
1. Teach 5 sections of English
2. Serve as a faculty advisor
3. Provide a range of instructional and assessment strategies to meet the needs of all
students
4. Cultivate a clear, organized, and interactive Google Classroom and course website
5. Collaborate with staff members to create engaging lessons and a positive school culture
6. Track student data and uphold high behavioral and academic expectations
7. Support students with individual and small group work outside of class time as needed
8. Communicate and build effective relationships with students and families
9. Create an inviting and engaging classroom culture
10. Perform other projects and duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Teacher should be passionate, with experience and knowledge in secondary English. Teacher should have an interest in and ability to contribute to extracurricular activities. Teaching experience in an independent school is preferred.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in English or related field is required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:
Three or more years of teaching experience in language arts is required.
School leadership experience is strongly preferred.

Equivalency:
Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
