Aligned with the College’s strategic goal of Excellence through Diversity (Point 2 in Concordia Leads: The Plan for 2030), this Fellowship is aimed at supporting the development of a teacher-professional interested in joining higher education and working in a liberal arts setting; diversifying faculty who teach at Concordia College and in liberal arts colleges generally; and otherwise supporting the College’s initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The successful candidate will be qualified to teach Education methods courses in literature and communication arts, including Reading and Writing Instruction Methods and Young Adult Literature. Candidates will also be expected to teach introductory writing courses and courses in their area of expertise. Candidates who will contribute to the development of our increasingly diverse campus community and whose teaching, research, and/or other professional activities focus on under-represented populations are highly valued by the department and the college.
The Teaching Fellow will be hired at the instructor rank, teach a reduced load (18-20 credits per year, determined in collaboration with the department chair), and receive all privileges of a full-time faculty member. Applicants should have a plan for professional development to be conducted during the Fellowship; involving students is encouraged. Funding is available for qualifying candidates to support work towards an advanced degree.
The Department is interested in applicants who will contribute to the development of an increasingly diverse campus community and have experience working effectively with diversified populations and mentoring aspiring teachers. Applicants from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
This position will be housed in the English Department, working in collaboration with the Education Department. English is the largest humanities program, and education is one of the largest majors on campus. English has just recently revamped its requirements for the Literature and Writing majors based on the following goals: Read, Inquire, Empathize, Write, and Change the World. Some work has begun on revising the Literature / Communication Arts major; the successful candidate will be able to play a role in reshaping that program.
