Essential Job Functions:
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher adheres to the school philosophy recognizing the developmental nature of childhood growth and each child’s need for belonging; they have a particular knowledge of, and appreciation for, the uniqueness of adolescents and adolescence.
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher works in accordance with the mission, vision and values of High Meadows School around approaches to learning/teaching, progressive teaching, and the Positive Discipline approach to behavior.
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher is responsible for supervision and direct instruction (including literature, writing, vocabulary, history, global studies), student assessment, narratives, communication with parents, and parent-student-teacher conferences.
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher works in collaboration with the Middle Years team, both within and across academic disciplines, and irresponsible for student learning, classroom instruction, and curriculum implementation in English.
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher provides instruction for Mini Courses, or electives, during each 6-week session.
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher chaperones overnight trips with 6th, 7th and/or 8th grade students.
- The Middle Years Humanities--English teacher will work with the Middle Years team to design learning environments that are focused on creativity and innovation, striving to challenge students to a deeper thinking level and to develop a yearning for greater understanding.
Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required:
Minimum of three to five current, consecutive years as a full-time teacher in Humanities-
English (Literature/Writing/History); Bachelor’s Degree required; Preference given to those with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Education. Collaborative and interdisciplinary instruction experience a must.
