Description of Work:

• Core courses within the English education program sequence: including TEAC 439/839: Literature of Adolescents; TEAC 452/852 (alternating with the tenure line faculty person); and TEAC 403/803B: Secondary Student Teaching Seminar.
• Clinical/Practical experience courses, namely TEAC 397N: Professional Practicum Experience III and TEAC 497: Student Teaching.
• Educational Foundations courses as needed; TEAC 161: Teaching Matters, and TEAC 331: School and Society.
• Graduate level courses in literacy, English pedagogy, and/or pedagogical content knowledge.
• Nebraska Writing Project (NeWP) Summer Institute and Advanced Institute summer courses.
• Co-leading the Husker Writers partnership.

• Organizing and hosting annual welcome events and meet-and-greet functions.
• Holding informational meetings during semester breaks, prior to clinical experience placements, and during the semester to ensure students are prepared and informed regarding their experience and job search.
• Finding, developing, and/or distributing resources regarding financial support, mental health support, and job opportunities.
• Providing induction support as candidates transition from the role of student to that of classroom teacher.
• Working with secondary teachers and undergraduate/graduate students to develop and implement curricula that centralizes social change and anti-racist teaching and provides secondary students with opportunities to write to authentic audiences.

• Building relationships with local school districts through direct communication, the organization of meetings, and the offering of professional development with district-level curriculum specialists and leadership.
• Working with local districts to identify and reach out to expert classroom teachers to serve as cooperating teachers for preservice teachers during their practicum and student teaching experiences.
• Working with the Office of Field Experiences to ensure placements are appropriate in terms of mentorship, scheduling, and location.
• Identifying and recruiting English education supervisors who can provide rich, substantive feedback for preservice teachers.
• Identifying areas of need in the state for secondary English teachers and researching, brainstorming, and planning pathways for preparation for those areas.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• An earned doctorate in English Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy, or a related field.
• Three years teaching English Language Arts/English at the middle or high school level .
• Demonstrated knowledge of central issues in teacher preparation, English education, literacy education, clinical preparation, and/or university-school partnerships.
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with preservice English teachers.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
• Experience teaching literature and composition.
