The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg is dedicated to enhancing the academic success and personal development of low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities. Funded by a federal grant, the program provides comprehensive support services, including academic advising, tutoring, financial literacy education, and career planning. Our mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers students to achieve their educational and career goals, promoting higher retention and graduation rates among our diverse student population. Through targeted interventions and a commitment to educational equity, TRIO SSS strives to reduce barriers to success and create pathways for lifelong learning and achievement.
Grant funding is issued yearly and is contingent on project progress and the federal budget. As a grant-funded position, this position is subject to the availability of grant funding.
Job Summary
Utilizes advanced advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small to medium-sized, moderately complex projects.
Essential Functions
The Pitt -Greensburg TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the academic success and personal development of students from underserved backgrounds. The Academic Coordinator will work closely with the Project Director and other staff to implement program services that foster student retention and graduation.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Student Advising and Coaching
- Providing academic advising to a caseload of SSS participants, assisting with course selection, academic planning, and career exploration;
- Developing Individual Academic and Career Plans (IACP) for each participant and monitoring their academic progress through regular meetings and check-ins;
Conducting workshops and seminars on study skills, financial literacy, and other topics relevant to student success.
Program Support and Coordination
- Assisting in the development and implementation of retention strategies, including early alert systems and academic interventions for at-risk students;
- Collaborating with faculty and staff to coordinate tutoring services and academic support for SSS participants;
Maintaining accurate records of student interactions and progress, ensuring compliance with program goals and federal regulations.
Cross-Campus Collaboration
- Building and maintaining relationships with campus departments and external organizations to enhance program services and student support;
- Serving as a liaison between students and university resources, connecting them with opportunities for personal and academic development;
Collaborating with Learning Resources and Disability Services to facilitate and encourage tutoring and other services.
Other Duties
- Participating in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in student support and retention;
- Assisting the Project Director with program evaluation and reporting as needed.
Physical Effort
The position is primarily sedentary, however, some walking on campus to attend meetings and/or events is required. Some
lifting under 25 lbs. may be necessary. Employee will drive to off-campus events at local high schools or colleges and will be required to attend professional development conferences.

Hiring Range: $43,894.50 - $46,000.00 annually
