Description
The Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences (TELS) in the College of Education at North Carolina State University at Raleigh (NC State) seeks an exceptional, tenure-track (Assistant or Associate rank) candidate to work in the area of English Language Arts (ELA), including Middle School ELA and secondary English Education preservice teacher preparation, for the Fall of 2026.
This position is focused on ELA education and offers the opportunity to collaborate with social studies education faculty.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching middle grades and secondary English language arts (ELA) methods courses.
- Advising undergraduate and graduate pre-service teachers and mentoring doctoral students in the Literacy and English Language Arts (LELA) concentration.
- Maintaining an active research agenda focused on Secondary English Education and/or English Language Arts education.
- Demonstrating the potential to secure external research funding.
- Opportunity for possible program development and coordination for LELA programs.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in English Education, Literacy Education, Teacher Education, Learning Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction, or related fields.
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience in 6-12 schools or equivalent settings.
- A research focus related to Secondary English Education/English Language Arts Education.
- An established record of scholarly research and publication commensurate with the rank and expectations of a Research 1 (very high research activity) university.
- Potential to secure external research funding
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with supervising and facilitating student teaching internships and school partnerships
- Experience in program design, development, and coordination
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply skills of effective digital instructional technology within courses
